Dementia 101: An Introduction for Dementia Caregivers

Are you new to caring for someone living with dementia? Or have you been caring for someone living with dementia for a while and would like to understand more about the disease, it's progression, and how to best communicate with those you're caring for?

This workshop is available for all caregivers, no matter how long you have been in your role!

⏰Time: Sunday, April 27 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM

🌎Located: Community Foundation of Hancock County 971 W US Hwy 40, Greenfield, IN

This introductory workshop is for all direct and indirect caregivers of those living with dementia: family, friends, neighbors, healthcare workers, etc.

We will...

- Discuss various kinds of dementia.

- Distinguish between progressive and potentially reversible dementias.

- Discuss the Global Deterioration Scale to improve awareness and understanding of progressive dementias.

- Identify key differences between dementia vs depression vs delirium as they can be often misdiagnosed for one another in the elderly population.

- Train on use of functional communication skills to improve every caregiving interaction.

- Provide strategies to utilize with every caregiving interaction to provide patient-centered, empathetic care.

- Provide a supportive environment with other caregivers that are going through a similar experience as yourself.

The overall goal of the workshop is to improve knowledge and awareness of dementia to promote person-centered, empathetic approach to dementia care. With this approach, we aim to improve the quality of life of both yourself and those you care for as well as improving the quality of care we are able to provide as caregivers.
